Frequently asked questions
Whether you’re new to the club or looking for more details about our programs and events, the FAQs below cover the most common questions from our community.
When does the season start?
Our first event of the season is usually the third week of May, the week after Kits Classic, the first Volleyball BC tournament of the season.
How much does it cost to play?
For their first KWVC event of the season, each player pays an annual one-time non-refundable $30 membership fee and $25 for event registration.
How are membership fees used?
We’re a non-profit organization run by players, so all of the money collected from memberships is put back into club expenses including equipment, event and operating costs. The registration fees are also used entirely for event cash prizing.
Where can I sign up?
Just head to the Events page of our website when registration for an upcoming event opens up and sign your team up using the form on our website. Registration for each event opens on Friday, the week before the event.
How do the rankings work?
Our ranking system is based solely on results and finishes from KWVC events. For pre-season ranking, it is based on the average of a player’s previous season’s top 2 finishes. If only one event was played in the previous season, ranking will be calculated based on the single event result. If a player hasn’t played in any event in the previous year, their ranking will be based on the prior year’s top 2 or single best finish. If only one player in the team has a KWVC result, their finish will apply to both players in the team.We also have a wild card application process for teams and players who have had success in other events and tournaments across BC, Canada and the US, to help us better rank them in our events.Where do KWVC events take place?
All of our events take place at beautiful Kitsilano Beach off of Arbutus Street.
What divisions are there?
We welcome players from all levels of play at our events. In the morning pool play, teams will play each other in their pools based on their original ranking. After which, each time will be re-ranked based on their morning results and placed in one of two or three tiers (depending on the number of registered teams): AAA, AA, A.
What are the prizes for winning?
We offer cash prizing for all of our events to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place (tie) teams in AAA. We also usually offer cash prizing for the 1st and 2nd place teams in AA and A, depending on the number of teams registered and total registration fees collected.
Do you offer leagues, coaching or training sessions?
At this point, we only offer competitive events for athletes to test their skills. For training sessions for youth, check out Pacific Coast Volleyball Club or Volleyball BC for league play and for more information.
